Telluride Housing Authority Awarded Transformational Affordable Housing Grant
Voodoo Affordable Housing Project one of eight projects awarded across seven counties
(April 19, 2023) – Telluride, CO --- The Telluride Housing Authority (THA) has been awarded a $2 million grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), through the Division of Housing (DOH). The grant, awarded through the Transformational Affordable Housing Grant (TAHG) Program, will offset some construction costs of the Voodoo Affordable Housing project in downtown Telluride.
The aim of the Transformational Affordable Housing Grant Program is to provide funds and resources to assist eligible applicants in developing, creating, or preserving affordable housing opportunities in their communities. DOLA awarded $28.345M in funding across seven counties in Colorado for eight projects that will provide an estimated 595 additional affordable housing units to the state.
The Voodoo Affordable Housing Project will provide opportunities for middle to upper middle-income individuals and families which presently have fewer rental options in the current rental portfolio. The project will involve the construction of 27 rental units along with ground floor commercial space, a public restroom, and a new Free Box, which were not part of the grant application. Construction has commenced and planned completion date is September 1, 2024.
“The Town is appreciative of the grant award and recognition of the Voodoo Affordable Housing Project,” said Program Director Lance McDonald. “This project is integral to our continued efforts to provide accessible and affordable housing for our working community members and families. This grant award will bring down the overall project cost and reduce rent prices for future residents.”
The Voodoo Affordable Housing Project is underway with construction updates being posted on the Town of Telluride’s Engage website at bit.ly/totvoodoo.
